Cabo San Lucas Hotel Article - Los Cabos Magazine Issue 7 - 2001

The finest oceanfront resorts may all boast spectacular locations, attentive concierges and proximity to the best golf courses, yet today the most coveted reservations are those that include the spa experience. With the average getaway lasting a mere four or five days, travelers want and expect more than just a room with a view. The trend towards a complete mind and body retreat, combined with an ambience only Los Cabos can provide, has created an explosion in spa services at many of the area's finest resorts. Today, visitors to this piece of heaven at the tip of nowhere can experience all the fabulous features we're world famous for, including the ultimate spa experience.

World renowned, The Spa at Ventanas al Paraiso is at the very heart of the mystique of this exceptional Rose-wood resort nestled between the Melia Cabo Real and Casa del Mar hotels at the Cabo Real development. The Spa offers guests the latest, most innovative treatments and services designed to exceed every expectation. It is among the finest of world spas known for pampering celebrity guests. Embracing a complete lifestyle approach, The Spa’s skilled massage and treatment specialists formulate a unique profile for each person.

Full body wrap services, Ayurvedic treatments, mud and aromatic baths combined with Hydrotherapy, Balneo-therapy and Thalassotherapy complement an extensive list of exclusive treatments from around the world. Specialists trained in “LaStone” therapy use heated and chilled stones for a healing, relaxing massage; along with the use of other natural botanicals, aromatherapy, and exfoliating and moisturizing massages to indulge in. Facials, salon services, a sauna, a steam room and a whirlpool encourage guests to completely relax in separate facilities for men and women. The Spa has eight treatment rooms, each opening onto private gardens where guests may relax after the treatment. Worth experiencing is the 12’ x 8’ pavilion on the sand, complete with cooling misters surrounded by sheer, breathable fabric that affords treatments or massage in total privacy with unobstructed ocean views. Fitness amenities include state-of-the-art exercise equipment, classes, and programs including yoga and personal training. Reser-vations should be made at least two to three weeks in advance for any spa services at Las Ventanas al Paraiso. While the Spa has received rave reviews, the accommodations at Las Ventanas are what discriminating clientele desire. With just 61 suites spread throughout a minimalist design in harmony with the desert surroundings, the hotel is centered above an award-winning infinity pool and boasts the largest standard rooms in Mexico. Tastefully decorated in understated elegance, the overall effect is low-key and timeless. Posh touches include sumptuous linens and bath products, terra cotta fireplaces, telescopes for viewing the night sky, Jacuzzi splash pools and private rooftop patios on upstairs suites. The rooms are set in small, lowrise clusters laid out in such a fashion that guests are ensured an optimum of privacy. The oceanfront finishing hole of the Robert Trent Jones II Championship golf course is nestled at the eastern edge of the property affording spectacular views of the verdant green, desert topography and the azure Sea of Cortez. Guests enjoy privileges at this course as well at two nearby Jack Nicklaus-designed courses.

Next door to Las Ventanas is Casa del Mar Golf Resort and Spa, a luxury condominium resort and hotel. Set amidst lush and ample tropical gardens on a surprisingly deserted string of sand, Casa del Mar is an upscale getaway carefully built and decorated in traditional 19th-century Hacienda style. With just 24 rooms within the hotel the atmosphere is inviting and intimate. An additional 32 suites with full kitchens are available around the hotel in lowrise buildings. Amenities include Jacuzzi tubs, marble floors and spacious private terraces. Unlike other properties, the resort has an unusually spacious design of beautifully maintained grounds and never feels crowded, with room for four Astroturf tennis courts and six pools, including a beachclub and bar. Booking a court or finding a vacant lounge chair never seems to be a problem, even during the busiest times of the year. Golfers will appreciate the guaranteed tee times offered to guests at the Robert Trent Jones II and Jack Nicklaus Eldorado Championship courses within Cabo Real. The facilities at the Spa at Casa del Mar include eight treatment rooms, three each for men and women with a facial and wet room. A large Jacuzzi with cascading waters enlivens the spa, providing a wonderful respite in soothing surroundings. The focus of the Spa at Casa del Mar is on treatments using indigenous ingredients from the local desert environment. The Baja Desert Cleanse, a total body treatment designed to purify both the mind and body, uses local clay rich in minerals, followed by an application of refreshing, healing aloe vera gel. A wide range of massages and body wraps are available including shiatsu, deep tissue sport massage, reflexology and an array of aromatherapy treatments. Full facial services (including men’s skincare) using the therapeutic Thermologica skincare line complements the many exclusive treatments at this intimate spa. Gym facilities with individually tailored programs will appeal to those looking to maintain their shape before enjoying the many therapies created exclusively for the Spa at Casa del Mar.

Also within the Cabo Real resort are two hotels of the Sol Melia group, the 302-room Melia Cabo Real and the 150-suite Melia Los Cabos. Very different in architecture and flavor, each boasts an Avanti Spa, one of the groundbreaking spas in Los Cabos. At either Avanti location, guests have a full range of spa services including detoxifying body wraps, aromatherapy, massage, underwater lymphatic hydromassage, facials, salon services and a well-appointed fitness center.

Hidden discreetly from the highway, the Westin Regina Golf and Beach resort sits at the eastern limits of the Cabo Real development. The sheer magnitude of the architecture is not fully experienced until you arrive at the lobby and view the sweeping curve of the hotel forming a natural bridge that seamlessly joins the two cliffs on either side of the grounds. Designed by acclaimed architect Javier Sordo Medaleno, the Westin Regina resort is an architectural monument influenced by Luis Barragan’s contribution to 20th-century Mexican architecture. It’s dramatic arch echoes both the natural wonder at the tip of Land’s End and the sensual curve of the beach fronting this shore hugging 295-room resort. Guests will appreciate the well-appointed and spacious rooms and suites with spectacular ocean views. Contemporary in all respects, the Westin Regina combines old-world Mexican hospitality with all the modern amenities Westin resorts are known for. The Spa at the Westin Regina is no exception to that rule. It features two separate treatment rooms for men and women, a facial room, steam room, sauna and whirlpool. Long known for its superb full-service beauty salon, the Spa also provides relaxing facials and a variety of massage. The fitness center has an aerobic studio, computerized exercise equipment and a good selection of free weights. Guests may also enjoy no less than seven swimming pools, volleyball, tennis on two grass composite courts; and they have access to five Championship golf courses nearby.

The Sheraton Hacienda del Mar Resort and Spa at Cabo del Sol resembles a sophisticated Mexican colonial village with attractive buildings in terra cotta shades of Hacienda-style architecture. Situated on a stunning beach, the resort encompasses six buildings, four housing the 171 all-suite Sheraton and two additional buildings for vacation ownership. It is without a doubt one of the finest resorts in Los Cabos for both hotel amenities and vacation club offerings, featuring spacious well-designed suites, many with Jacuzzi tubs; creating an ambience of upscale villa living with all the perks of a first class hotel. Luxury features include full gourmet kitchens, antique furnishings, fresh flowers and private terraces. The 7,000 square foot Cactus Spa and Fitness Center, adjacent to the hotel, has three treatment rooms with a bevy of body care treatments including the Soft Pack system, exclusive to the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar in Latin America. Four different Soft Pack body therapies are available. The formulations are applied to the body which is then wrapped and lowered into a warm water bath. Guests have raved that the Soft Pack system not only rejuvenates and treats the skin but also relaxes the mind. Other amenities include a well-appointed gym with free weights, treadmills and all the equipment one would expect from a first rate facil- ity, including personal trainers. The Sheraton also coordinates water aerobics classes, tennis, volleyball, rowing, kayaking and other activities. Nature walks, stretching, meditation and relaxation classes combined with the Cactus Spa ensure guests complete relaxation and escape from today’s stress-filled world. As an added encore, the incomparable Jack Nicklaus course at Cabo del Sol is only minutes away with “the finest three ocean finishing holes in the world,” according to Jack Nicklaus. The Sheraton’s Cactus Spa and Fitness Center is a fitting end to a challenging day on the links.

Open since late 1999, Grupo Posada’s Fiesta Americana Grande Los Cabos is a dramatic and luxurious addition to the Cabo del Sol community. It’s proximity to Cabo San Lucas and excellent golf (guests receive guaranteed tee times at the Jack Nicklaus Cabo del Sol course), combined with meeting space for up to 1,100 people, has made this hotel an instant hit with incentive groups and individuals alike. Tucked into the eastern edge and perched on the hillside, the architecture of the 90 million-dollar, 278-room and suite property is bold and modern with liberal use of wood and contemporary art installations. One of three magnificent pools cascades several levels, terminating near the beach with two hot tubs straddling the poolside. Room perks feature separate shower stalls and tubs, individual climate controlled air-conditioning, two phones, bathrobes and slippers and luxurious toiletries, in addition to the standard amenities one expects from a world class resort. Spa and fitness facilities include two tennis courts; a fully equipped gym with free weights, cardio and exercise equipment; and a European health and beauty spa with seven treatment rooms. Unwind with a Jacuzzi, sauna or steam and indulge in a full range of services designed to relieve stress and recharge both your body and soul. Spa treatments include massage therapy, body care and facials with full beauty salon services for women and a barbershop for men.

Pueblo Bonito Rosé is situated on Playa El Médano, Cabo San Lucas’ fine swimming beach, with unobstructed views of Los Cabos’ famed landmark “El Arco.” A meticulously planned resort of 260-suites, this sumptuous getaway is known for it’s rose-hued architecture reminiscent of an opulent Mediterranean villa, setting the standard for incomparable luxury in Cabo San Lucas. Extremely elegant yet embracing Cabo San Lucas’ relaxed style, the Rosé’s lobby is straight out of a Roman fantasy with antique Flemish tapestries, soaring columns and stunning floors of imported marble and stone. The grounds are impeccable and recall a fairy tale setting with exotic birds and fishponds. At the Spa at the Rosé, under the expert direction of fitness trainers, you may select from an individual training program of free weights, boxing, stairclimbers, treadmills, elliptical crosstrainers and aerobics on a high-tech Airbase Aerobic floor. After your workout, let yourself be pampered with a therapeutic massage, invigorating hydrotherapies, facials and unisex salon services. Massage choices include Shiatsu, reflexology, aromatherapy and hydrotherapy. If you don’t feel like leaving your suite, there’s the added luxury of the Spa’s relaxing and rejuvenating in-suite Swedish massage. Body treatments focus on rejuvenation, exfoliation and hydration. The Therapeutic Mud Treatment begins with a gel prepared from tropical fruits, followed by a foamy gel, then a mud body masque. These are rinsed away with a Vichy shower, ending with a light massage in combination with a relaxing tonic. Facials are a specialty, especially the Rosé’s signature facial to nourish, tone and improve the color and texture of the complexion. This luxury treatment begins with a gentle cleansing followed by revitalizing and toning agents and includes the additional pampering of a soothing massage of the neck, shoulders and arms, with a hydrating treatment applied to the hands. Combined with expert full salon services, the Spa at Pueblo Bonito Rosé is fit for any Emperor or Empress.

Villa Del Palmar Beach Resort and Spa, with its impressive nine-story towering atrium lobby complete with dramatic waterfalls, has a relaxing, comfortable ambiance. This resort features more than 458 spacious junior to three-bedroom suites all with fully equipped kitchens and private balconies. Boasting one of the finest spas in Los Cabos. Located on the eastern reaches of Playa El Médano, just outside of Cabo San Lucas, and this resort still convenient to shopping and nightlife. Villa del Palmar enjoys more privacy and seclusion than the hotels along the western end of the beach, closer to downtown. The resort is Mediterranean in design and most suites have a spectacular view of the Sea of Cortéz, Cabo San Lucas’ majestic granite cliffs and the famous El Arco at Land’s End. Amenities include full kitchens, 2 restaurants, a well-stocked grocery store, 2 swimming pools, lighted tennis courts and a 10,000 square-foot European health club and spa; a Cabo San Lucas institution for many local residents. The fitness center is packed with specialized gym equipment and free weights; and holds daily aerobics classes, kickboxing and yoga sessions. The Spa is known for their combination packages of massage therapy with body care treatments. The holistic massage and tropical loofah body scrub is a favorite. Four massage rooms and two treatment rooms are constantly booked, so make reservations well in advance as this spa has a reputation for excellent technicians and the personal touch. Complete with Jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room, the Spa at Villa del Palmar also has a first rate unisex beauty salon for an all-encompassing spa experience.
